Clayton Gray

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

During my recent searches for a dresser, I stumbled on Clayton Gray Home.  This store in Tampa Florida has a great online shop chock full of interesting lighting, mirrors, furniture and accessories.  Here are just a few of the pieces that I could easily find a place for in my house…

  1. Porcelain bird lamp
  2. Recycled scaffold mirror
  3. Kaleidoscope linen pillow
  4. Brigitte large chest
  5. Nantucket mirror
  6. Hibiscus rug
  7. Polo 6-drawer chest
  8. Aldine opal glass lamp

I’ve added Clayton Gray to my list of inspiring shops.  What are your favorite online spots for browsing?

Time to See the Light

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

At some point, I’m sure our 1920’s bungalow had charming lighting.  I wish I knew what our house looked like when it was all shiny and new, because any trace of delightful illumination is long gone.  Somewhere along the way, all of the lights in our house were replaced with these brass beauties.

Any takers?  Feel free to make an offer – we have 5 of the fixture in the middle!  Silliness aside, my next round of redecorating is going to address these lights, and I’ve already found my first replacement.  I was inspired by this chandelier from Pieces:

This fantastic vintage find is well out of my price range, but this one from Shades of Light  is a steal in comparison.

I will leave the shades off, and I love the round light bulbs in the Pieces chandelier.  The best part of this chandelier is that you can have it painted in a custom color!  Now I just need to decide where it should go – the dining room, the master bedroom, Violet’s room…  Stay tuned to see where it ends up!

Spring Treats

Have you seen the new spring line from Pigeon Toe Ceramics?  There are some really cute additions to their collection of white ceramics – like these test tube vases, pendant lights, and butter dish.

Maybe the Easter Bunny will put one of these treats in my Easter basket…

Hudson Furniture Inc.

I was browsing the November 2009 issue of Elle Decor at the doctor’s office this morning and noted several things to look up when I got home. This furniture and lighting company from New York, called Hudson Furniture, is one of them.

Hudson Furniture Inc.

Aren’t these pieces incredible? The Monastery chandelier on the left, designed by Barlas Baylar, is made of nickel mesh.

About Hudson Furniture’s sourcing practices: “None of the woods [they] use are harvested from old growth forests. [Hudson Furniture] wood slabs are domestically sourced from either salvaged trees or wind/storm damaged trees.”

Gorgeous…

Shades of Light

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

At Urban Nest, we typically like a good bargain or a resourceful look-alike; however, we are not afraid to be inspired by luxurious furnishings and accessories. One of our favorite sources for lighting inspiration is Shades of Light, based right here in Richmond. Most of the things I am drawn to at this posh lighting boutique are out of my price range; but, I love to browse their displays and examine the quality and craftsmanship that make these pieces so special. Here are some of my favorites right now:

How clever are these graphic candle sleeve covers? What a great way to add some detail to a chandelier or sconce.

Here are the links to the images on my wish list:
a. Jonathan Adler Ceiling Light
b. Studded Ceramic Table Lamp
c. Modern Classic Sconce
d. Vintage Spindle Table Lamp
e. Seahorse Floor Lamp
f. Circlet Ceiling Light
g. White Silhouette Urn Table Lamp
h. Kaarskoker Candle Sleeve Covers
i. Martha Stewart Veneto Glass Chandelier – 9 Light

Shades of Light carries a wide range of styles from antique to modern. With just a few retail locations, including one right around the corner from my house, they primarily operate via catalog and online shopping. You will also see them referenced in lots of upscale decorating publications.

It’s definitely worth browsing, especially if your budget provides.
