Feeling a Little Modish? I am…

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Check it out, friends. Modish is giving away a $50 gift certificate (in-store or online) to Quirk Gallery. You know how much we adore our friends at Quirk, not to mention all the fabulous trinkets and treasures to be found there!

Modish Quirk GivewayHop over to Modish to enter before May 19. And while you’re there, be sure to get to know Miss Modish a bit. Her blog is a lovely compilation of art, design and entrepreneurship. A little fashion, a little decor, a little glimpse into a sweet life in Portland, OR.

And since we’re all feeling a little generous this week, be sure to share a quick bit of feedback here for a chance to win a set of gorgeous handmade bookends from Urban Nest!

Dolan Geiman Love

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

I think I’ve mentioned in the past how much I love the artwork of Dolan Geiman. He’s a mixed media artist working in Chicago, but originally from Virginia! He has released a new group of works this month for his new Spring collection, but I am most excited because he will have a show in the shop at Quirk Gallery during the month of April. The show runs April 2-24 beginning with First Fridays Artwalk…so you’ve got all month to check out his work. If you’re in other parts of the country, Dolan has a full schedule of shows and fairs throughout the summer. And you can always stop by his Etsy shop any day of the week to view his creations. Enjoy!

Wall Flowers

What happens when I go into Quirk Gallery? I come out of Quirk Gallery with something fun. Every time. Sometimes it’s for me. Sometimes it’s for someone else. These are for me!

Magnetic test tube bud vases! I have them on my Ikea locker in my workroom and I just love them. A little sign of life, where you least expect it!

For those of you who do not share my obsession, I will now take a little break from talking about one of my favorite places in Richmond!

Quirk Gallery Window {Grade-School Crush}

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Quick follow up to our Quirk Gallery Window installation. We thought you might like to know a little more about what went into the display.

Here’s How We Did It:
We started with a few thrift store treasures: a vintage school desk, globe, and picture frame. We didn’t do a thing to the desk other than dust it off. The globe needed a little TLC, so we pulled all the pieces apart, re-glued the globe halves, painted the base and arms a crisp white, and re-assembled it. We popped a piece of matte black foam core into the frame and Stephanie drew this awesome doodle-heart, filled with “LOVE,” using good old-fashioned chalk!

Grade School Crush {behind the scenes}

We covered stacks of books and made 100’s of cootie-catchers out of some of our favorite Ink & Paper gift wrap.

Finally, we pulled a few fun things from the shop — gorgeous porcelain book vases, a Cardboard Safari DIY rocket, and a bunch of Quirk’s signature buttons.

So much fun to work in this amazing downtown space with these super creative and inspiring gallery girls!

Sneak Peek: Quirk Gallery

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Rachel, Juliet, and I have tried our hands at many projects over the years using assortments of materials from fabric, paint, paper, hardware–you name it, we’ve probably used it! Well, this week, we’re combining all of those elements to create a window display for a local favorite: Quirk Gallery. Below is what the window currently looks like from the inside.

These are a few teaser snapshots of our work in progress. The reds and pinks might give it away that it’s Valentine themed…but can you guess what the second image is? To check it out in person, visit Quirk Gallery on Broad Street in Richmond, VA starting this afternoon. We’ll post pics of the final window for all of our readers to view, so stay tuned!
